Former Somali parliament speaker Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari has been elected second term in office after winning today’s election in Mogadishu.
Mr Jawari has been re-elected in office following a landmark victory
over Wednesday’s election for the speaker of the country’s 10th
parliament.
Prof Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari retained his seat after defeating
his rival candidate Abdirashid Mohamed Hidig with majority 141 votes,
according to the polls result.
Abdirashid Mohamed Hidig has conceded defeat, and congratulated Jawari on his victory.
The MPs are expected to elect the deputy speakers on Thursday,
January 12. Over 14 candidates.
